OUTPATIENT G2 ROTATION

Continuity Clinic:  Friday am

Performance expectations: Similar to the G1 Outpatient rotation, a block in the G2 year is reserved for clinical experiences outside of the acute care setting. This will include Orthopedics, Urology, General Medicine, and your longitudinal Medicine Clinic. It is your responsibility to call each clinic to find out when you are expected at each site or if you will be gone. Vacation days will be lost for time not spent as scheduled. If a clinic is canceled, be in the hospital reading. Assume clinic start times are 8:00 am and 1:00 pm unless you learn otherwise.

Educational Goals and Objectives:

The goal of the second year outpatient rotation is to provide exposure/experience in outpatient orthopedics and urology as well as developing ongoing skills in outpatient internal medicine in several settings.

Goals and Objectives for Outpatient Continuity Clinic:

The goal of Medicine Clinic is to provide an opportunity for the resident physician to manage a group of patients with a wide range of medical problems over their three years of training.

 

YOU MUST WEAR YOUR BEEPER AT ALL TIMES DURING THIS ROTATION. NOTIFY ALL CLINICS ABOUT VACATION TIME.
1. UROLOGY
Monday morning with Roland Ugarte, MD, 6545 France Ave. S., Southdale Medical Bldg. 952-927-6501. Every Monday morning. The first week please arrive by about 9:00 AM to meet with the office manager for information.
2. ORTHOPEDICS
The overall goal of this part of the rotation is to familiarize you with general and specialized orthopedic practice. In addition we would hope that you would become proficient during this month in developing treatment protocols for your patients, writing appropriate physical therapy orders and injecting the shoulder, knee, elbow and ankle. A very useful textbook in the orthopaedic exam is by Dr. Hoppenfeldt and is titled "Physical Examination of the Spine and Extremities". Prior to beginning the rotation Dr. Buss wants you to be familiar with the examination in both the knee and shoulder.
a) Tuesday. AM General Orthopedics with Doug Drake, MD, 952-920-0970, MHI bldg., Room 440. Call to find out when to get there.
b) Wednesday, PM Sports Medicine with Dan Buss, at the ANW COC clinic or the Edina Clinic at 8100 W. 78th St. so please call beforehand to find out at which location you will be working, 952-946-9777.
3. GENERAL INTERNAL MEDICINE
Monday PM, Tuesday PM, and Thursday AM - ANGMA COC (Hwy 169 and 494 in Edina). Notify the ANGMA office and Anne K. if you are taking time off.  A three week minimum notice, given to Anne is required if you are planning on taking vacation time.
The address is 8100 W. 78th St, Edina. Reach the clinic from the hospital as follows:
1. Go north on 10th ave on the east side of the hospital and go one block to 26th St. Take 26th St. west (one way) to Portland. Turn left (south) on Portland and go to 31st street. Turn right and 31st St. and go a few blocks and enter 35W South. After 35W S merges with the Crosstown (62), stay to the right and continue west on 62 until you come to highway 169 south. Take this south for a few miles to Valley View Road. After the exit ramp, turn left and cross the highway and then turn right onto the Frontage Road. In a short while this will take you to the clinic. Park anywhere in the surface lot. The clinic is the first clinic on the first floor (Suite 100).
4. MEDICINE CLINIC: Friday morning is your Medicine Clinic. During this rotation the only 11:30 conference you will be able to make is the one on Friday. A three week minimum notice, given to Anne is required if you are planning on taking vacation time.
5. NIP CLINIC: Friday, PM General medicine NIP clinic with chief residents.  Thursday PM with Dr Ed Kraus. Address: 2431 Hennepin Ave, 612-374-4089
